House of Horrors (1946) was a low-budget horror film released by Universal Pictures, starring Rondo Hatton as a madman, named “The Creeper.” It was also known as Murder Mansion and in the United Kingdom as Joan Medford is Missing.
Struggling sculptor, Marcel DeLange (Martin Kosleck) is depressed about the events going on in his life, and decides to commit suicide. But just as he’s about to kill himself, he spot and saves a madman, named “The Creeper” (Rondo Hatton) from drowning. Shortly afterward, he takes the disfigured man into his care. Marcel also makes the Creeper the subject of his next sculpture and calls it his best creation. But as the reviews begin to break Marcel’s last nerve, he has the Creeper start killing the critics.

This enjoyably spooky film essentially riffs on this one-note premise for over 70 minutes — sort of an inversion of Night of the Living Dead’s claustrophobic scenario — and fortunately comes off quite well thanks to superb use of the desert locations, an eerie score, uniformly good performances, and Emmy award-winning monster costumes from Stan Winston.

INVASION OF THE SAUCERMEN ON DVD

Invasion of the Saucer Men (also known as Invasion of the Hell Creatures, working title – Spacemen Saturday Night) is a 1957 sci-fi comedy film starring Steven Terrell and Gloria Castillo and produced by American International Pictures (AIP). The screenplay by Robert J Gurney Jr and Al Martin was based on the short story ‘The Cosmic Frame’ by Paul W Fairman.
A spaceship lands in the woods. A teenage couple, Johnny Carter (Steven Terrell) and Joan Haydon (Gloria Castillo), driving down lover’s lane without headlights, accidentally run down one of the aliens. Joe Gruen (Frank Gorshin) a drunken opportunist, comes across the alien’s corpse. He plans to keep the body in his fridge, but the aliens arrive and kill him by injecting alcohol into his veins via their hypodermic fingernails. Having reported their close encounter to the police, Johnny and Joan return with the Sheriff, only to find Joe’s body in place of the alien. The police plan to charge them with manslaughter. Meanwhile the dead alien’s hand has detached itself, grown an eye, and run amok. The military, following a UFO report, are soon involved. They surround the alien’s spaceship, but in the end it is the teenagers who defeat the aliens when they discover that they cannot stand the glare from their car headlights.
